More resources, awareness needed to fight eating disorders

“Eating disorders have the highest mortality rates of any psychiatric illness,” said University of Florida Assistant Professor of Psychiatry Mathew Nguyen in an email. “Approximately 10 to 20 percent of people with an eating disorder have a fatal outcome. We are now seeing eating disorders gaining a greater societal awareness, especially in the male population, than in years past.
